Chang, Brian

Brian Chang is the Chairman of Yantai Raffles, a shipbuilding company in Yantai, Shandong Province, Peoples Republic of China.

Born in South Africa, Brian was a son of a language teacher and housewife who later moved to Singapore as a child, and became citizen.

Brian Chang founded YRS in 1994. Previously, he has worked with various companies in Singapore and Malaysia in the marine industry, including Mobil, Jardine Offshore and Far East Levingston Shipbuidling Limited (currently known as Keppel FELS Limited) between 1965 and 1970, where he pioneered the construction of Singapore’s first jack-up drilling rig.

Subsequently, he started his own company, Promet Shipyard (now known as PPL Shipyard) in 1971, which grew in size over his decade-long tenure. He has over 40 years of professional expertise in the shipbuilding industry and the marine fabrication sector. To date he had overseen more than 600 marine construction projects.

Brian Chang is currently the chairman of China shipyard Yantai Raffles; He had sold 30% to China International Marine Containers for up to $566 million, retaining about 14% share of the company.

Mr Chang received a scholarship for an Honors degree in Electrical Engineering at the City University, London and graduated in 1965.

With a net worth of about $560 million, Brian is ranked #10 on Forbes Singapore's 40 Richest1.
