Ow Chio Kiat inherited small tugboat company Hai Sun Hup from father while still a teenager. Transformed it into sprawling conglomerate with shipping, logistics and Australian real estate companies, all 3 of which he listed in last 5 years. Keeps a couple thousand wine bottles in his wine cellar.

He is currently the Executive Chairman of Stamford Land Corporation Ltd, Singapore Shipping Corporation Limited and Cougar Logistics Corporation Ltd.

He started his career in Hai Sun Hup, which was a cargo handling/port services company. He expanded this into an international multi-faceted shipping and property group, forged joint-ventures with many major companies and held positions, inter-alia as Chairman of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (Singapore), Sumitomo Warehouse Singapore etc.

Eventually, Hai Sun Hup Group Ltd was listed on the main board of the Singapore Stock Exchange in 1989 and subsequently renamed Stamford Land Corporation in 2001 to focus on its core hotel and property businesses. Mr Ow established two other listed companies, viz Singapore Shipping Corporation in 2001 and Cougar Logistics Corporation in 2006.1

With a net worth of $125 million, Ow is ranked no. 15 on Singapore's 40 Richests in Forbes 2008.2
